New Lead Scenic Artist Announcement Feb 14, 2011
Scenic Artist, Greg Viera has been a well-known fixture in the creation of hand painted Backdrops, along with heading scenic departments in the Hollywood area, for over 20 years.

Beginning at Warner Brothers as a Journeyman, Greg spent 15 years contributing to designing and painting backdrops, murals and props for movies such as Die Hard, Spiderman, Ghostbusters, Superman, Lethal Weapon, Scrooged, Born on the Fourth of July, Back to the Future, just to name a few.

In 1995 Greg accepted the position as Lead Scenic Artist at Superior Backings in Hollywood. There he drove the design of hand painted backdrops for such names as Green Day, Cold Play, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Buffet, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart and the Foo Fighters. With the full accountability for every aspect of the final creation, Greg managed teams of Journeymen as they painted to the exact specifications of his clients without losing sight of his "art". By encouraging individuality and "one of a kind" spirit within his team, Greg developed a style only a hand painted creation can offer.

Now in 2011, Greg has decided to join our team and we here at Grosh Scenic Rentals are thrilled to have his experience on our side. Grosh has been a cornerstone in the creation of custom and rental backdrops for nearly 80 years in Hollywood. Here, Greg will be leading our Custom Backdrop Division, bringing with him his design and project management talents. Along with these honed artistic skills, Greg%u2019s ability to visualize the ideas of his repeat customers, patiently working with them until a draft design is agreed upon and an artistic project is set into motion.

Last week, we had the opportunity to meet attendees at the DanceLife Teacher Conference in Orlando, FL. Studio owners and dance teachers attended this conference to learn more about companies that can provide great products, how to market their studios, feel rejuvenated about their work, and much more. Rosemary Fischer is the President and Creative Director at Bravo Productions, Inc. It is her role to create the concept as well as the design for the events they produce. They offer the design, planning, and implementation for innovative events, whether their clients are looking for entertainment for corporate parties to décor for a birthday party. Bravo Productions can provide it all! We asked Rosemary Fischer how Grosh backdrops impacted her Princess themed party

We asked, why did you choose Grosh for your backdrop and drapery needs?

"I chose Grosh because the selection of backdrops and quality is always excellent! If a specific backdrop is unavailable, there always seems to be a suitable option to choose from. Your staff is very helpful in assisting me in selecting the perfect backdrop for each event, and I know I will receive the backdrop on the date promised, and in excellent condition." We asked, how did the palace backdrop compliment your Princess Palace event in March?

"The backdrop was the key design element to work from and instrumental in creating a palace environment in a very small function room."

What was your greatest challenge in this last event production?

"Our greatest challenge was trying to fit all of the event components and activities comfortably in a very small function space. This included draped purple fabric with gold sashes on walls, a lavish banquet table, oversized genie lamp, treasure chests overflowing with jewels and coins, oversized palace pillows, a complete costume parlor (complete with full princess costumes, tiaras, shoes and jewels for all of the children), airbrushed pillowcase station, DJ, craft station, and a magic carpet area for our Princess to entertain the guests (not to mention a seating area and refreshments for the adults)."

What was your greatest joy in this last event production?

"The greatest joy in this event was watching the children's smiling faces from the moment they arrived until the moment they left the event. During the event, one of the children looked at her mom and said, Where are the rides? You see, she and her family were going to Disney World a few days after the event, and the little girl was a bit confused thinking she was already there! We knew at that moment we had successfully created the perfect Palace for the event! Thanks to everyone at Grosh for continually providing great backdrops, great service and assisting us in creating unique and successful events!"

Congratulations Goodwin Lighting Services! Jun 03, 2009


Goodwin lighting Services has provided their product to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) annual fundraiser since 1995. Each year offers a unique theme, which dictates the type and style of lighting and scenery. Owner and designer, Glen Goodwin, offers a vision to reinforce the fundraiser's theme or style. This year, the event style was a Great Gatsby theme and Goodwin Lighting Services chose Grosh's Opalescent Austrian Drapery to compliment the event.We asked Glen Goodwin, why they chose the Grosh drape. Congrats to Burlington High School! May 07, 2009


John Middleton-Cox became the director of Burlington High School in 2009. Although new to this role, he has evolved over the years and was an essential part of other successful shows as the producer, musical and lighting director for the high school. With a new director on board ticket sales have tripled and the budget has allotted for new scenic options. Mr. Middleton-Cox chose to use Grosh backdrops to enhance his production of "Wizard of Oz". From the high quality backdrops, lighting and costumes; the show was a great success.

We asked Mr. Middleton-Cox what was his great challenge with this year's show. He explained, "The Costumes were the greatest challenge. We had 100 cast members which required 250 costumes. We had all volunteers doing the shopping and sewing and organizing." What a daunting task! When asked about his great joy, he responded, "The greatest joy is always the final performance. For me, it is when all of the details and technical challenges melt away, and we can all focus and be carried away by the emotions of the songs, dances, and scenes. A good production employs the best technical support that does not distract, but enhances the experience for the audience." It is easy to get be swept up in the performance with great scenery. Mr. Middleton-Cox reflected on the impact of Grosh backdrops, "Your backdrops were used as the anchor for the look of the scene. Paint colors were chosen to match the drops. Costumes and lighting were also a reflection of the backdrop. This is why the pictures look to great. We were able to create a fictional world, not just a good setting."

Grosh offers a 15% damage waiver to customers renting backdrops and drapery. This waiver is available for purchase and covers minor damages to rented items. When electing the damage waiver, customers will not be liable for damages except for loss of the rented items or a willful act of gross negligence.

New Product - Grosh rents spring clamps Jan 12, 2009

Spring clamps are an easy way to hang your backdrop or drapery from Grosh. These new rental items have rubber tips to prevent damage and should be positioned every 2 feet to correctly support your backdrop or drapery rental. This new product is available in zipped bags of 20 or 25 and contains instructions. You can also achieve the desired height of the backdrop or drapery by folding it from the top and using the clamps to secure the item to a truss or pipe. Not only do these essential tools adjust the rented item to your venue needs, but also will reduce your set-up time.

"Spring clamps are a great time saver. Not only do they make it easy to hang a backdrop, but also taking it down has never been easier. Grosh spring clamps are especially useful to adjust the height of a backdrop to the exact dimensions of any particular venue. No need for special knots. When using spring clamps to hang a backdrop, the drop can be held with one hand and the clamp applied with the other. No more trying to hold up the backdrop and fasten the tie lines at the same time. Handling Charges to be Displayed on Grosh Orders Oct 22, 2008

Starting in October, Grosh customers will see a format change to the order. In order to provide you with detailed information regarding your order, we now have itemized handling charge and shipping charge.

"A handling charge has always been a part of the shipping amount however with new tax rules, it is imperative that we separate the cost as a unique line item in order to abide by tax guidelines. This fee is a small percent of the rental amount which covers the cost of boxes, labor and material in shipping our product." says Vice President, Amanda Uhlien.

Grosh is proud to announce items for purchase on the website. Primarily a rental company, Grosh has some products out of inventory that do not meet the quality standards of a Grosh backdrop or drapery.

The only backdrop rental company to provide a rating system for the condition of their product, "Grosh wants our customers to be informed about the condition of the backdrop or drapery that they are renting", says Jane Copeland, Grosh's Director of Sales and Marketing.

With a vast rental inventory, Grosh understands that often customers base their rental decision on the condition and price of a backdrop or drapery. "Some items return damaged or are older and we are unable to rent again, we wanted to provide our customers the opportunity to purchase these items and utilize their creative skills", says Copeland.

To purchase an item, customers must review the items available and proceed with the online order process. The purchased item ships within two business days and customers receive a confirmation e-mail regarding the purchase and when it will arrive. "It is important that customers know that items for purchase are not in good condition and we can not provide flame certificates", says Copeland, "but we are confident that they can find creative ways to use the item for their next event."
